Why Using a Travel Advisor is the Smartest Travel Decision You Can Make

A few months ago, I had clients on their way to what was supposed to be a blissful Caribbean getaway.  They were excited, bags packed, ready for sunshine, ocean breezes, and a little well-earned rest.

When they arrived at their resort, though, they discovered something we hadn’t been told ahead of time:  the property didn’t have an elevator where they were located.  Their assigned room was three flights up… and one of them had a bad back.

At first, they tried to handle it themselves — heading to the front desk to request a ground-floor room.  Unfortunately, they were told nothing was available, and that they’d just have to make do.  That meant climbing those stairs multiple times a day in the tropical heat — not exactly the start to a relaxing vacation.

That’s when I got the call.

Within 20 minutes, I was on the phone with the resort’s management.  Over the years, I’ve built relationships with key people at many of the properties I recommend, and I knew exactly who to reach out to.  Because I had that connection, I was able to bypass the usual red tape and get my clients moved to a ground-level room by that same afternoon.

From that moment on, their trip turned around.  No more painful stairs.  No more frustration.  Instead, they spent their days soaking up the sun, enjoying the beach, and exploring the local area.  By the end of the week, they told me it had been one of their best vacations ever — so good, in fact, that they wished they could have stayed longer.

When Things Go Right… and When They Don’t

Anyone can book a trip online, but here’s the reality:  when something goes wrong, the internet isn’t going to advocate for you.

When you have a travel advisor, you have someone who:

  • ✈️ Rebooks flights before you’ve even left the airport when there’s a cancellation.

  • 🧳 Tracks down lost luggage so it’s delivered right to your hotel.

  • 🏨 Negotiates room changes and upgrades using direct connections to decision-makers.

Why It Matters More Than Ever

Travel is more complex than it’s ever been.  There are shifting airline rules, unexpected weather events, strikes, resort policy changes, and sometimes just plain bad luck.  A travel advisor isn’t just someone who plans your trip — they’re your problem-solver, advocate, and behind-the-scenes fixer.

More Than Damage Control

Of course, I’d rather everything go perfectly from the start — and a big part of my job is designing your trip so potential issues are avoided entirely.  That means:

  • Choosing the right destination, accommodations, and experiences for your needs.

  • Unlocking perks and upgrades not available to the general public.

  • Coordinating every transfer, excursion, and small detail so you can simply enjoy yourself.

Your Trip, My Commitment

When you book with Genesis Voyages, you’re not just getting an itinerary — you’re getting someone who’s invested in your trip from the moment we start planning until you’re safely home (and telling me all about your adventures).

My clients from that Caribbean trip came back not just happy, but grateful.  That’s what I want for every traveler I work with — for you to return home with stories about breathtaking views, unforgettable meals, and new friends you met along the way…  not stories about the hassle you had to deal with.

Bottom line? You could go it alone.  Or you could have someone in your corner who turns “What now?” into “Problem solved.”
